Given one half of Shoyswell's owners was also a visual manager as COS, we undoubtedly had to pay special attention to the aesthetic detail and user experience of this site. Lawrence & Jolyon were keen to put time into the typography and copy. They wanted the Zen experience of their retreat to mirrored by the site.
Their excellent hospitality was immediately evident since our first meeting and we wanted to ensure their potential customers all recognised the value of the property and their experience ahead.
The final design is calm and well-laid out for both desktop and mobile platforms. Its features a lot of self-managing pages that subtly tidy up after themselves and guide the user effortlessly through the content, avoiding common website frustrations.
The headings, for instance on the Local Area page close up neatly when not in use and the current active section is scrolled to the top of the page to maximise potential content. The footer, a common messy extra with subsidiary information , packs away neatly until needed.
The rooms are laid out in an accordion, which expands to reveal a full photo gallery of each and updates the relevant information on the page, hiding any details not relevant to that room.
The site was built on a Drupal CMS to allow the owners to "quack" news updates (There is duck theme to the b&b and the site.) and add features to the local area information as well as update the room details and copy.
We included a training schedule for Jolyon, the internet "luddite" as he calls himself who has quickly become accustomed to the back-end administration.
We knew that mobile users immediate interest in the site would be a link to their Google map co-ordinates, address and contact details and these are immediately available in the header, but placed more considerately on the full desktop version of the site.
We're really happy with the final results and continue to enjoy the hospitalities of Shoyswell Cottage.
I recently set up a small business, and amongst the million other things to be organised was the very important question of how to set up a website with a booking facility - really the shop window these days of any small business enterprise.
I was delighted to meet Bob and Ali from Cosy Studios who looked after the whole thing; I felt very confident that they had taken on board the brief, and I was impressed with how thoughtful they were with regard to the design and look of the whole site.
We now have a website that I can be proud of, and which I feel represents my business very well, so I would not hesitate to recommend Cosy Studios.
