DORIS stands for Document Organisation, Referral & Information service.
It is currently in use by West Kent GP’s as a reliable database & form integration system. DORIS sets itself apart from other system as we have a dedicated team of individuals that actively chase updates to forms, guidance and contact details to ensure the system is well up to date. The system scans in the paper form produced by most NHS services and remaps the fields to an electronic version, populated by the patient database in house.
The system integrates with the in house patient database, EMIS via a client written in C++/Visual basic.
We inherited the system from it’s previous developer who’s initial directive was clearly “Minimum viable Product” – the source code was outdated, uncommented and disorganised & we were tasked with a complete UI overhaul (not an easy task when the majority of NHS computers were still running IE11!). We reorganised the codebase and have maintained it through various caveats & breaking changes introduced by the ever changing NHS.
It is still widely loved by the GP’s that use as the most straight forward system they have to autopopulate forms and keep their practice efficient.
